Milk Jug Sun Catchers

Usually a sun catcher is made of glass, but clear plastic works great too.  This project to  a great way for your kids to not only learn about recycling but it also gives them the opportunity to get creative!

Supplies:

• Empty, clean and clear milk jug
• permanent markers
• scissors
• utility knife(optional)
• hole puncher
• string/yarn

When you look at the milk jug you’ll see lots of flat areas. Large, medium and small areas. These are the places we will be cutting out.  You can use your scissors or a utility knife to puncture the jug and cut out all the areas you’d like to draw on.

Time to get creative! You can also place images under the plastic for the kids to trace and color in.

Let marker dry then use your scissors to cut around the images.

Leave room to punch a hole and punch.

String through the hole. Create a knot in the back larger than the hole.

Now find perfect place to hang your sun catchers and that’s it!

Sun catchers aren’t the only things these can become.

Bookmark: Attach the string and it becomes an instant place holder.

Necklace:  You can add a jump ring then a chain or simply feed the chain through the hole.

Photo frame: Use a larger piece and cut out a square shape and decorate. Glue to photo.
